George Stephanopoulos’ Early Life and Career
George Stephanopoulos was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on February 10, 1961. His father, Robert George Stephanopoulos, was a Greek immigrant who worked as a restaurateur, and his mother, Nikki (née Galanos), was a homemaker. Stephanopoulos attended Columbia University, where he studied political science and economics. After graduating from Columbia in 1982, Stephanopoulos worked as a researcher for the Democratic National Committee (DNC). In 1984, he joined the staff of Democratic presidential candidate Walter Mondale.
Political Career
After Mondale’s defeat in the 1984 election, Stephanopoulos worked as a communications director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. In 1988, he joined the staff of Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis. After Dukakis’ defeat in the 1988 election, Stephanopoulos worked as a senior advisor to the Democratic National Committee.
Clinton Administration, George stephanopoulos
In 1992, Stephanopoulos joined the staff of Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton. After Clinton’s victory in the 1992 election, Stephanopoulos served as Clinton’s White House Communications Director from 1993 to 1996. In this role, Stephanopoulos was responsible for managing the White House’s communications strategy and for advising Clinton on media relations.
George Stephanopoulos’ Current Projects and Future Goals
George Stephanopoulos is currently the chief anchor and political correspondent for ABC News. He hosts the Sunday morning talk show “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” and is a regular contributor to “Good Morning America.” Stephanopoulos is also the author of several books, including “All Too Human: The Triumph and Tragedy of John F. Kennedy” and “The Gatekeepers: How the White House Chiefs of Staff Define Every Presidency.”
In addition to his work in journalism, Stephanopoulos is also involved in several organizations and initiatives. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also a trustee of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation and the National Constitution Center.
